To inaugurate our store, we invited curator Jason Andrew to select fine objects, art and accessories from a diverse group of artists. These products are offered exclusively for Contemporary North Builders.
Nikki Blair (Greensboro, NC) revisits the idea of “vessel" in her’s that play with form, space, and balance. Amanda Brazier (Chattanooga, TN) visits sites and there, gathers the very raw materials by which she will make paint. Martha Clippinger (Durham, NC) taps the rich indigenous textile tradition of Oaxaca, Mexico, in her limited edition “Shuttle” tapete. Having visited Rome extensively for decades, Hermine Ford (New York, NY) captures the layered and fractured history built upon history in her intimate works in gouache on paper. The minimal sculptures by Pricilla Fusco (Brooklyn, NY), some of which are wearable as jewelry, play with human ambitions and mythologies, highlighting our awkward place in the natural order. Brece Honeycutt (Sheffield, MA) slows down our contemporary pace in her handmade and stitched artist books. Paula Pino (Brooklyn, NY) uses their love of shells and electroacoustic music to twist metals into a harmonious chorus we can wrap around our wrists. Claire Sherwood (Averill Park, NY) employs a variety of techniques in her sculptures that reference place, texture, and pattern. Jessica Sanders (Tyler, TX) investigates the thresholds of geography and materials in her weaved and draped works.
I hope you enjoy getting to know these artists as much as I have.
